Canadian cellist and composer RAPHAEL WEINROTH-BROWNE today unveils the final performance video from his Worlds Within Live offering with “‘Tumult IV,” now playing courtesy of BrooklynVegan.
Worlds Within Live is the live rendition of WEINROTH-BROWNE critically lauded solo debut Worlds Within, released independently in January 2020. A single composition divided into ten tracks, the record plays out like movements in a classical variation set with music ranging from ethereal and atmospheric to aggressive and intense, combining elements reminiscent of contemporary classical minimalism, metal, post-rock, and even electronic music while retaining its own distinct sonic language.
Comments WEINROTH-BROWNE, “‘Tumult IV’ is the last chapter of the chaotic Tumult suite — a final confrontation. ‘Fade (Afterglow)’ represents surrender — making peace with what is, before returning to the infinite. The oceanic ‘Unending II’ portrays the dissolution of self and its gradual subsumption by the natural world and the elements.”

Having been an integral creative force in groups such as The Visit, Musk Ox, and Kamancello, as well as having recorded and toured extensively with Norwegian progressive rock/metal band Leprous, Worlds Within sees WEINROTH-BROWNE exploring his cellistic voice even further. The record takes full advantage of the possibilities of the instrument; all of the sounds on the album — melodies, harmonies, riffs, textures, and even percussion — were created on cello with amplification and effects pedals
“His music is an impasto painting, building upon itself with his bow (and fingers) serving as the brush…” — Decibel
“…a beautiful LP and worth hearing from top to bottom…” – Spectrum Culture
“…a perfect example of how a classical instrument can sway and hypnotize, cleverly attaching itself to conjuring up visions and images.” — At The Barrier
“Worlds Within Live is simultaneously challenging but remarkably easy on the ear. There really are worlds within the four strings at play, and WEINROTH-BROWNE is fearless in exploring them.” – The Sleeping Shaman
