Outspoken punk rock band Rise Against is touring this summer in support of their latest album Nowhere Generation, that was released this year on June 4th. They are supported on this tour by American punk rock Descendents, who have been rocking on and off since 1977. The Nowhere Generation Tour stopped by Dallas Texas at the Southside Ballroom on August 15th.
The Menzingers opened the show off on this night. They gave a great performance that had enough energy to get the crowd pumped and ready to rock. After The Menzingers opened the show, Descendents proved to be the perfect support band. At first, it seems like an odd pairing of old punk and new punk, but it fit right along with the feel of the show. Tim McIlrath, singer and guitarist of Rise Against, even said late in their set that “if it wasn’t for bands like Descendents to pave the way, bands like Rise Against would not exist.”
Rise Against performed 3 new songs from their latest album Nowhere Generation, and the rest of the set was filled with many of the classic songs that their fans have grown to enjoy. Tim was extremely happy to be on tour during these times, making multiple comments about how the last 18 months has sucked for most of us, and how they have missed playing in front of a live audience. You could see in their eyes and faces just how happy they were to be there. This was my second time covering Rise Against and I have to say they really did bring it all out and leave nothing behind. Tim even brought out the ol’ acoustic and did some solo songs as well. An 18 song setlist was just what we all needed after the rough time we’ve had away from live music.
