New Music Review: VAJRA ‘Irkalla – EP’

REVIEW – New York based Alternative Metal group Vajra debuts a new EP called Irkalla. Irkalla is the first part in Vajra’s Trilogy Series looking at consciousness. The six track EP tackles the issues of darkness that need to be faced before moving onto the next level of awareness and thought.

The self titled track “Irkalla” is an instrumental piece that sets the haunting presence for the album. The follow up song Maya showcases fierce feminine vocals that swells to heights singing “What You See Is What You Get.” The next song “Crown Crucify” starts off with a building loll then bringing in the steady drumbeat to set the tone. The song fluctuates between soaring along with the singer’s voice and then driving back to a steady stream. “Wavering” is a silent storm that sneaks up on the listener that is reminiscent of experiencing something out of the ordinary. When listening to “Wavering,” one cannot help but like they are in a desolate place full of void and thoughts only to themselves making this song a standout. “Sever The Tie” brings back the rock infusion with searing guitars and lyrics. The closing track “Wind” winds the album down with a slow paced take to close things out.
