REVIEW – If people think the punk scene has lost its passion, wait till you hear THE VENOMOUS PINKS. You can clearly hear that this band was inspired by bands like THE RAMONES, THE CLASH, THE RUNAWAYS and L7. This band has so much passion and heart. The EP starts off with this punk anthem called “We Do It Better.” I love the balls of THE VENOMOUS PINKS to put a line in the sand and dare any person or band to cross it. As infectious and catchy as the vocals are, that guitar sound on this song is beyond sick. I think this song is the frustration of being lumped into the categorization of “being just a bunch of women.” This is clearly a band that demands respect, and seems to want to challenge anyone not to respect them. The next track, “Nightmare” sounds like a band that wants to show people they are more than one flavor. This song is catchy and intoxicating. You get the feeling that THE VENOMOUS PINKS are not to fuck with. They would be the ones who could break down your family tree, piss all over the branches and flip you off at the same time. If you are a fan of bands like HOLE and L7, you are going to love “Nightmare”. “Pizza Slice” is this obnoxious as fuck rocker that teeters metal and punk. The shock to THE VENOMOUS PINKS, you get so much in their music. The break in this song is sick and unexpected and makes this song so amazing. “Mantis” is another one of those songs that teeters hardcore punk and metal. You have the scream along chorus that is so fun. This song also offers a break in the middle that showcases that THE VENOMOUS PINKS have some great musicians in the band. This is a band who throw everything into each song and compliment the moment. The ending song “Radar” is the type of song you expect to see playing at the end of a 80’s John Hughes film. Where you watch the hero walking hand in hand with the head cheerleader. It is a catchy and fun ending to this EP. We Do It Better is what SquidHat Records is so famous for… Honest music, for a fan-base that appreciate bands that sing and play from the heart. I know one thing, I hope all the female references I used in this review do not come back to haunt me when they read this review. This is clearly a band not to fuck with. This is a good 5 song EP from a band who has been around for awhile, and hopefully with this label, can get some much needed attention. For fans who love the punk, the metal and the feeling a loud guitar with a catchy song can bring, get this EP immediately. The shape of punk is constantly changing, but yet when it is real, the energy and passion is always the same.
