REVIEW – OPHIDIAN MEMORY, the brainchild of Blake Lamoureux, returns with its darkest and most brutal release yet, ‘Carrion Lord,’ set for release on March 21st, 2025 via Wormholedeath Records.. Melding melodic death metal with blackened aggression, thrash energy, and progressive intricacies, this album crafts a relentless and immersive sonic experience. Each track unfolds within the expansive lore of Existence, a dark fantasy universe that has become synonymous with Ophidian Memory’s conceptual depth.

“The Mausoleum” opens with ominous intensity, setting the stage for an unforgiving odyssey through crushing riffs and relentless drumming. “Hunger of Your Deceased Deity” follows with blistering speed and searing vocals, evoking a sense of impending doom. “A Jewel in Grocinia” strikes a balance between melancholic atmosphere and sheer brutality, showcasing Lamoureux’s mastery of melody and chaos.

The title track, “Carrion Lord,” solidifies the album’s grim, war-torn narrative with razor-sharp tremolo picking and blackened death metal ferocity. Meanwhile, “The Murder on Warforged Soil” marches forward like an apocalyptic battle hymn, driven by thunderous percussion and hellish vocal passages.

The second half of the album plunges even deeper into progressive and blackened territories. “Hollowed” and “Sculptors of Seraphic Tributes” embrace technical precision and dissonant atmospheres, dragging the listener into a suffocating abyss. Closing with “Bloodborne,” the album culminates in an overwhelming wave of sonic devastation, leaving behind a sense of awe and finality.

With ‘Carrion Lord,’ Ophidian Memory has perfected the art of blending concept-driven storytelling with extreme metal intensity. Fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, and Blood Red Throne will find themselves completely enthralled. This album is not just a collection of songs—it’s a monolithic journey through darkness, deception, and war.
