New Music Review: FIGHT THE FURY ‘Still Breathing – (EP)’

REVIEW – I am so confused here. When a band as popular as Skillet announces that two of its members will have side albums, you feel you know what to expect. Jen Ledger put out something that skated on Skillet meets Paramore. John Cooper has put out the angry brother to Skillet. I did not expect this cd out of John. I understood he was flirting with his heavy side, but this album is a shocker. The EP opens with the track “ My Demons”. This album opens with a punch. A hard punch to the eardrums. The chorus showcases what you would expect from John. It was catchy but the guitar sound was just energetic and gets your attention. This album speaks in one language and that is loud. The next track is “Dominate Me”. This track has such an intensity and venom to its melody and tempo, that you cannot help but become intoxicated to it. This is a song that if Skillet played live fans would really get into. “ Still Burning”, showcases what this band can bring to the table. This song feels more of a group effort than a solo singer.

This showcases the bass drum that surrounds this track like ants to sugar. This song captures the listener almost immediately. The last two tracks were very good as well. You can really tell the man has put his heart into this project. In past interviews he has stated what an influence Metallica was to him. Hearing this cd, I am not sure if I could say it was Metallica the sound inspiration as much as maybe Stone Sour. The music comes across as a controlled chaos in a uncontrollable environment. This is a very good taste of what this band is capable of bringing. I like this EP enough, that I am excited if this project goes forward with more music.
