REVIEW – Dead Can Dance is the duo of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard. They formed in the early 80’s and put out many records that are in my top 100 best albums ever. The second I got this record in my email, I had goosebumps. This record seems to be the journey that Brendan went on with his fascinations of the Dionysian religious practices. I will say, long time fans of this band will have a lot to be happy about with their 6 year wait. This album is haunting, yet beautiful and poetic. Lisa Gerrard deserves to be in the same conversations with a Kate Bush and Beth Gibbons as to how influential she is as a vocalist. No offense, but there would not be a Portishead without Dead Can Dance.

Dead Can Dance on this album create such a inviting yet strange atmosphere. The album opens with waves and rain that slowly goes into this cultural sound that feel like we are embarking on a journey that will change us. This album gave me excitement from moment one. I shut off every light in my house, shut off my cell phone and just put on my headphones and let this album take me away. My promo was broken down to two acts. Act 1 which went for around 17 minutes or so. Act 2 which went for almost 20 minutes. Act 2 is when we hear more vocals.

This album you can tell meant the world to the band and is from their hearts. This is why they truly only release music when they have a loud statement to make. Where most bands have to release albums each year to feel like they are still a part of the scene. Dead Can Dance make the scene try to be a part of them. Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry have put their passion on the forefront and take us on a journey that has no limits. I feel that each album this band puts forward, it feels like another step in a world that they truly live in as shapeless forms that feed off of unforgettable melodies. This is an album that will stick with you, long after you are done playing it. Lisa Gerrard is an angel that was sent to this forsaken world to make it a better place musically, along with her head angel Brendan Perry they truly make me a fan of music each time they put out a release. This is by far a classic. Dead Can Dance fans, this is well worth the wait. Lisa Gerrard, I truly love you. Thank you for keeping the music alive. Brendan Perry, thank you also for keeping the music alive but, Lisa, I love you.
