REVIEW – LOUNA is putting out a greatest hits cd. This has me worried. Are the band breaking up? Are the band going to change their sound and direction? Why would a band, such as LOUNA, that is on such a high right now, be doing this move? These are the questions that the fan in me is wondering. If you are not familiar with LOUNA. They are a Russian band founded by a lead singer who is an adrenaline rush of power and passion. Lousine commands attention in the way she delivers the lyrics. The band compliments her vocal with an attack that is like an out of control roller coaster. The best way to describe LOUNA’s sound is a mesh of Halestorm and Paramore on heroin. I discovered this band on their ‘Behind a Mask’ cd and just fell in love with what they offered. I thought the cd was energetic and emotionally insane. I think the Russian vocals may be a turn off for most American fans. I do not mind them. She has such a delivery and passion that romances the musicianship. The music has a decidedly punk rock feel to it without going too overboard.

This is not a crossover punk band but a straight up alternative rock one. LOUNA is true to their core sound and the spirit of the music they started playing since the beginning. Some music fans or so called fans will argue about a band that has the female in the forefront. I feel this argument is made more for people to bitch on music boards than true fans who appreciate talent. This best of (so far) collection is an enjoyable collection of songs that make me want to go back and visit the past albums again. This makes the songs stand out even more since we know about the journey they been on fighting for their place in music. This Russian band has moved onward and paved a path that has made people pay attention. This band has such an energy and passion that you cannot deny their appeal to listeners. This album is not going to change the world. It may make it a bit better for an hour or so. If you are not familiar yet with this band, this album is like a great collection to get started with. I will not say to rush out and buy it, or you have to own this. If you want some fun music with a ton of heart and passion. This cd is a good little record.
