GOO GOO DOLLS & TRAIN Live at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland

The alternative rock bands the Goo Goo Dolls and Train brought their hot summer concert to Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD along with Allen Stone.

Allen Stone, the Washington state native, opened the show with his funky R&B sound with a nice 30-minute set.  Stone was very upbeat and joking with people in the crowd. He was there to warm them up for the co-head liner show and he did a great job.

The Goo Goo Dolls hit the stage, opening their set with their hit song “Stay With You.”  The band from New York put on almost an hour plus set singing other hits like “Slide,” “Black Balloon,” and “Iris.” Front man John Rzeznik teased the crowd to join him to sing along and would say, “I can’t hear you, don’t make me come out there,” and all the female fans would scream louder. Bassist Robby Takac bounced around on stage barefoot and threw kicks. He also sang two songs during the set while Rzeznik played guitar and played up to the crowd. Rzeznik promoted their new album coming out this fall.  The band performed the first song from the new album, “Miracle Pill.”

After a short intermission, Train came on starting with “Calling all Angels.” The band from San Francisco brought their powerful and soulful hits with great songs like “Meet Virginia,” “Marry Me,” “Hey, Soul Sister” and “Drops of Jupiter.” Front man Patrick Monahan , bandmates and their great backup singers put on a very wonderful set including a few covers, “Empire State of Mind” (Jay-Z), “American Girl” (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), “Under Pressure” (Queen), and “Heartbreaker” (Led Zeppelin).
