GOD BULLIES: No Echo Premieres “Nice Place To Visit” Video From Noise Rock Icons; As Above, So Below, The Band’s First LP In Thirty Years, Out Now On Reptilian Records + Tour Begins This Week

No Echo is hosting an exclusive premiere for “Nice Place To Visit,” from Michigan’s caustic noise rock prophets GOD BULLIES. The song is found on As Above, So Below – the first LP from in thirty years – out now on Reptilian Records.

As Above So Below was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago, produced by Sanford Parker and the band, engineered and mixed by Sanford Parker, and mastered by Collin Jordan at Boiler Room Mastering in Chicago.

The “Nice Place To Visit” video was directed by guitarist Scott Kodrik/Creature Division FX. With its debut, vocalist Father Hard proclaims, “We all work hard and as we toil away it is easy to get distracted or bored with the ritual life can become. We live in the past, we dream of a future, we look for an escape route. With temptation always around the corner, some vacations are cheaper than others. Pick your poison.”

No Echo writes, “With titles by the likes of Helmet, Melvins, and Neurosis, Amphetamine Reptile Records and Alternative Tentacles were two of the most important labels in the ’90s heavy music scene. At different points in the decade, Kalamazoo, Michigan’s GOD BULLIES were on the rosters of both labels, so suffice to say, they were in the mix… Specializing in a menacing sound that found them attracting listeners from the noise rock and punk scenes…”

Originating in Kalamazoo, home of the state’s largest mental facility, the dark-edged satirists GOD BULLIES warped minds in the ‘90s by taking rock and garage-punk conventions and injecting them with massive overdoses of mental sickness, Midwestern perversion, backwoods hatred, and completely whacked-out speech sampling. Imagine Flipper crossed with Link Wray, fronted by a prison-bound Jim Bakker, and you might be close.

With several LPs and EPs on former label Amphetamine Reptile and various other independent labels, breaking up and shuffling members to return on West Coast’s Alternative Tentacles for their fourth LP in 1994, they again broke up. Mike Hard went on to perform in several bands including Thrall, Hand Over Head, and BrainSaw, with incestuous sharing of members between these bands, with the one constant through all this twisted output being the charismatic singer/psychopath, “Father” Mike Hard.

Fast-forward to 2024, and Father Hard and a core group of deranged Detroit disciples – guitarist Scott Kodrik, bassist Pat O’Harris, and drummer Cliff Carinci – have made the pilgrimage to Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio Studios to share their twisted, obsessive tales of conspiracies and fringe beliefs with the brainwashed masses! Boasting a much tighter, heavier and more sinister sounding GOD BULLIES, As Above So Below is set to rock the foundations of your faith; a dark, crude, and menacing attack that should appeal to fans of Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk, Easy Action, Melvins, Unsane, The Birthday Party, and the prime years of Amphetamine Reptile Records.

“…’I Am Mighty’ picks up right where GOD BULLIES left off, bringing that classic AmRep sound right into the 2020s.” – BrooklynVegan

“…As Above, So Below delivers, picking up from the late 90s but still sounding vital and current, thundering blasts of thick and gnarly guitars back up front man Mike Hard’s fire and brimstone weirdness.” – Echoes And Dust

“The band still doesn’t care about what you think of its music or the band itself, spitting in the face of everyone… The tracks here are fiery deliveries and never let up.” – Ghettoblaster Magazine

“…the band channels their signature blend of sludge and noise-rock with a tightness that feels both revitalized and dangerously unhinged… Their capacity to weave together jarring sounds with clever lyrics and a sense of urgency is unmatched.” – Amplify The Noise

“…a brawling dingy blast of noise and it kicks some serious ass.” – Aural Aggravation
