WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN marks his seventh solo studio effort overall and first studio album of all-new material since 2011’s Songs of the Ungrateful Living (2013’s The Life Acoustic was re-recorded solo guitar versions of previously released songs). The album is a look into his own journey of self discovery during a hiatus from music and a defiant refusal to be boxed in by a single genre or style. From the soulful “One of Us,” to the hard-edged, shot-taking rhymes on “The Culling” and the Alchemist-produced “Dream State,” Whitey Ford’s House of Pain is the work of an artist who has fully realized his strengths. “I just used everything in the tool box,” EVERLAST says humbly about WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN, adding that his family’s ordeal managing his daughter’s illness has given him “a whole different license to learn how to live.”
Last week (8/30), Rolling Stone premiered “It Ain’t Easy” from the 12-song album which Christopher Weingarten called a “…chiming, heartbroken folk ballad.” Co-written with notable Nashville powerhouse songwriters Luke Laird and Barry Dean, the song was inspired by a difficult time during EVERLAST‘s life as he took a hiatus from music to care for his daughter.
