REVIEW – I remember in 1998, listening to Rockline with Bob Coburn. They hard some of the guys from this band called ORGY. At the time, they were signed to KORN’s Jonathan Davis’ record label and they had all the buzz. Their cover of “Blue Monday” came out and put the band on the map. ORGY’s follow up to Candyass was not as successful. There was no buzz for it as it was approaching release and no really catchy songs that could get people to follow. While, I felt the album was good for what it was, you can clearly tell the band were under pressure to follow up a success and wanted to try and branch out their musical wings a little. In 2004, they released their third record Punk Statik Paranoia which I will be honest, I really loved that the band again was trying to experiment with their core sound and show people they were unfairly lumped into a category that they did not belong in. ORGY after that just disappeared in this fog. The scene at the time Candyass came out was kind to most bands, but the general public did not want those bands to have legs and keep going. 11 years later, and ORGY have returned with what I guess we can call a comeback record of sorts. If you liked ORGY before, you are really going to dig them now. Where most bands like DEADSY, MIND HEAVY MUSTARD, ULTRASPANK, VIDEODRONE and countless others could not adapt to today’s musical climate, it seems that ORGY is primed and ready to.
Jay Gordon has returned with a whole new lineup and I feel has put out a very strong record that shows ORGY may have been criminally overlooked. Talk Sick seems to be the first of two EPs. The best word to describe Talk Sick is infectious and catchy as all hell. It just sounds like Jay Gordon has something to prove and feels that this record could warm the hearts of the old school fans and maybe open the doors for a whole new group of fans. Gordon has found a group of musicians who compliment his style and his vision perfectly. They mix everything from dance to industrial in such a fun way, that the songs stick in your head long after you stop listening. The lyrics on this record seem to fit in with the grooves and band’s direction very well. The negative of Talk Sick is that it is an EP. Once you get to the final track, you really want more. The songs on Talk Sick showcase where Gordon has been musically since day one. There are elements of every stage of ORGY’s life, and also glimpses into the future. If you feel alienated by ORGY after they gave you Candyass, Talk Sick could be what you have been wanting from them. I hate to call this a comeback, this record makes it seem that they never left.
