NASHVILLE, TN (October 22, 2021) — Los Angeles-based indie-rock band The Walks of Life — led by Sam Marine — reveal their sonically rich and driving sophomore single, “The Other Side,” out today. From their upcoming self-titled album due out December 3, “The Other Side” features Phil and Laura Stancil from The Morning Yells.
“I consider ‘The Other Side’ a sequel to the previous single, ‘Here All Night.’ ‘Here All Night’ is a song about working as a late night service industry person (bartender) and ‘The Other Side’ is about the following night off work, being out and about in downtown Los Angeles where the evening gets a little carried away,” says Marine.
The quartet — which delivers a unique soundscape of introspective musings — prides themselves on writing relatable anthems for everyday walks of life. Composed of Marine [guitar and vocals], Stamati Arakas [drums], Kameron Biehl [bass and vocals], and Joe Guese [lead guitar] — The Walks of Life stands at the crossroads of California soft rock and daring indie experimentation.
On behalf of their last single, Buzzbands.LA stated that “‘Here All Night,’ is a lustrous, propulsive ode to Marine’s walk of life, set to the backdrop of 1980s California rock and complete with a sizzling guitar solo from Brian Whelan…‘Here All Night’ is proof that Marine and his bandmates found their spark.”
Their debut ten-track album, The Walks of Life, which follows a steady string of single releases, reflects on life lessons addressing unspoken — and sometimes chaotic — personal hurdles. “The most difficult part of writing this album was starting right before the pandemic and not being inspired to write quarantine songs like so many people did,” recalls Marine. “We got shut down right after I started and I lost motivation to write, almost entirely.”
Instead of letting the burnout get the best of them, the group pulled through and churned out an album full of soft synth and electric guitar riffs bound to get you lost in a sea-side drive down the California coast. As the band continues to grow beyond their personal hurdles, The Walks of Life’s cinematic score is sure to fit anyone’s soundtrack of life.
