Next week, Akron, Ohio doom/sludge metal quartet RADIAN will release their bulldozing second album, Discordian, through their own Elburno Records. With its release just a week away, today New Noise Magazine is premiering a volatile video for the song, âThe Discordian.â
RADIANâs sound is both more vicious and vibrant on Discordian, the album delivering six new songs with an elevated sense of living in a perilous world wrought with political discontent and societal unrest. Discordian was recorded and engineered at Akron Recording Company September of 2020 by Sanford Parker, who provides synth elements to the album. Parker mixed the album at his Hypercube Studio in Chicago, after which it was mastered by Colin Jordan at Boiler Room Mastering in Chicago.
The video for âThe Discordianâ was created and animated by Jeff France. RADIAN bassist Bill Govan writes, âThe game of this and that, us and them, neglects the (capital-T) Truth and ignores the essence of reality. When playing this game, we mistakenly forget that order and chaos are two sides of the same coin.”

RADIAN will release Discordian through guitarist Mike Burnsâ Elburno Records next Friday, June 24th, digitally and on two vinyl variants â Transparent Beer and Green/Black Splatter â in runs of 125 each. Find preorders at Bandcamp HERE.
Having recently supported Portrayal Of Guilt and Yautja, RADIAN continues to book regional live appearances, including a gig in Atlanta in late August, and plans to hit the Northeast this Fall coming together.

Formed in the Winter of 2017, RADIAN is currently embodied by guitarist Mike Burns (ex-Rue, Sofa King Killer), drummer Jeff Sullivan (ex-Fistula), bassist Bill Govan (ex-Goosed, Ravenna Arsenal), and vocalist Jeff Fahl (ex-Rue). Coalescing elements of groove and grime from their prior acts into a cohesive, slamming sludge attack, they independently released their debut LP, Chapters, in 2019 to an enthusiastic response from the sludge and metal media and fans alike.
Following the albumâs release, RADIAN supported the record live until the pandemic brought everything to a crawl. Like many other bands, the members found ways to write and create remotely and continued honing their sound until it was safe to gather and record again. December 2021 saw RADIAN release a split cassette with Celophys as part of Robustfellow Productionsâ Robust Split Series, while the final touches were being implemented on their second album, Discordian.
