REVIEW – SLEEP THEORY has steadily risen in the music scene since their formation in 2019. Initially a studio project blending hard rock, funk, and R&B, the band’s current lineup was solidified through a chance meeting on Facebook Marketplace. Since retiring from the U.S. Army, Moore has dedicated himself to the music industry, leading to the band’s signing with Epitaph Records earlier this summer.
Their rapid ascent is marked by significant milestones. Their debut single, “Another Way,” released in January 2023, quickly gained traction, amassing 500k views on TikTok within 36 hours. Paired with the follow-up single “Numb,” these tracks generated over 16 million streams and each hit No. 1 on SiriusXM’s Octane Chart for three weeks. This success earned SLEEP THEORY a spot in SiriusXM/Pandora’s Artist Accelerator Program and the Next Wave Concert Series.
“Paper Hearts EP” kicks off with “Fallout,” a high-energy track that immediately grabs attention with its compelling riffs and intense vocals. “Enough” keeps the momentum with hard-hitting instrumentation and infectious melodies that highlight the band’s ability to blend heaviness with catchiness. “Another Way,” their breakout single, shines with its captivating energy and memorable hooks, illustrating why it resonated so strongly with fans.
The tempo slows with “Gone or Staying,” showcasing Moore’s emotional vocal delivery against soulful guitar work. “Numb” raises the EP’s intensity with its metalcore breakdowns and soulful grooves, perfectly demonstrating the band’s range. This track not only highlights their talent for creating heavy music but also underscores their knack for crafting accessible, radio-friendly tunes. The EP concludes with “It’s Over,” a haunting track that leaves a deep impact through its evocative lyrics and haunting melody.
“Paper Hearts EP” is a testament to SLEEP THEORY‘s ability to merge genres and create music that resonates on multiple levels. Their diverse sound and emotionally charged performances make this EP a must-hear. As they gear up to tour with bands like Shinedown and Set It Off and prepare new music for 2024, SLEEP THEORY is poised to make a lasting mark on the music scene.
