New Year’s Day, the metal goth rock band that was formed in Anaheim, California, came to Baltimore as the opener for Godsmack’s 2019 tour. Ash Costello and the band hit the stage in full amped mode, doing songs from “Unbreakable”, their latest album that was released April 2019. In the middle of the show Ash Costello screamed “Metal is not dead!” and asked people to throw up their horns as they did a cover of Pantera’s ‘Fucking Hostile’. They also performed hits of theirs, such as ‘Scream’, ‘Skeletons’, and ‘Defame Me’. NYD made sure they got the crowd revved up and ready for Godsmack.
Finally, it was time for the bad boys from Massachusetts, Godsmack, to hit the stage. The crowd was on their feet from start to finish. Sully Erna is one of greatest front men out there and has great enthusiasm on stage. The whole band brought one hell of a show. For a band that’s been going for nearly 25 years – it doesn’t look like anything is slowing these guys down. The highlight of the show was seeing the dueling drums set with Erna and drummer Shannon Larkin of Batalla De Los Tambores. Erna spoke about The Scars Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps with mental illness, bullying, addiction and suicide. Then he began playing ‘Under Your Scars’, the newest single from their latest album “When Legends Rise”. The guys played many hits from past albums, such as ‘1000HP’, ‘Awake’, and ‘Voodoo’. The encore ended the show with a very hard hitting ‘I Stand Alone’. Erna got the Baltimore fans into it asking them to sing along, making sure they gave 110% before he ended the show.
