Stereogum Premieres New CASPIAN Song “Darkfield” – Album Out 9/25

In the three years since Massachusetts post-rock group Caspian’s 2012 release Waking Season, the band suffered the tragic death of founding bassist Chris Friedrich, and thus felt torn between grief’s desire to hide and continuing the band as Friedrich would want. 2015 marks 10 years since the band’s inception, giving them a perfect time to release their new album. “Darkfield” is a track off of Dust And Disquiet, slated for a September release. Post-rock is a difficult genre to claim (see our list of essential post-rock songs for reference), and guitarist and founding member Phil Jamieson knows it:

We can do soundscapes, reverb-drenched drones, and songs based around a repeating melody that build and build for 12 minutes until we are blue in the face. It is trying to convey a story through song structure, use of melody, and dynamics that has been the driving motivation from day one for this band.

Listen to “Darkfield,” a slow-building, spooky track fit with pounding drums and dynamic guitars, below.
