NASCAR in North Texas for the Duck Commander 500

Fort Worth, TX (April 12, 2015) – The Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas was held on Saturday, April 11th, 2015. Kurt Busch and the Haas Automation Chevy won the pole with the fastest lap at 27.857 seconds with a top speed of 193.847 MPH. The winner of the past three spring races at Texas Motor Speedway, Jimmie Johnson clocked in with a fastest lap of 28.063 with a top speed 192.424 MPH, good enough for a fifth place starting position. It wouldn’t take long for Jimmie Johnson to prove that he would have the evenings dominant car, as he took the lead for the first time on lap 109.

Johnson utilized his Hendricks powered Chevy to explode from the field on restarts commanding a sizable lead. Johnson was able to run away from the field while in clean air with no one able to catch him. Jimmie Johnson lead the most important lap of the evening taking the checkered flag for his seventy-second Sprint Cup Series win and his fifth career win at Texas Motor Speedway. Jimmie Johnson would lead the field 9 times for a total of 128 laps. Kevin Harvick gave Johnson a run several times, and was able to lead the field 9 times for a total of 96 laps.  Harvick didn’t have the power to overcome Johnson at the end, but would maintain his points lead with a second place finish.  Jimmie Johnson and the Lowes team will be heading back to Texas Motor Speedway with the Sprint Cup Series entail for the fall race later this year on for the AAA Texas 500 November 5th-8th. Johnson will be vying for the season sweep of Texas Motor Speedway’s 1.5 mile oval track. Johnson should be the favorite to win after winning the past 3 fall races at Texas Motor Speedway in 2012, 2013 and 2014.  There is no doubt that NASCAR fans can’t wait to see if anyone else can step up and break his Texas Motor Speedway win streak.
