New Music Review: MATT CHANWAY “Matt Chanway EP”

Matt Chanway is an instrumental guitar player and lead guitarist for western Canada’s metal act, Assimilation. Chanway released a self titled EP offering a new perspective and inventive guitar playing to the progressive metal genre. These pieces bring together the gap between old-school and modern innovative rock and metal, and feature upbeat, fresh riffs, soaring tunes, and understated, eloquent leads. In addition, Matt also appears on the highly anticipated debut full-length album from Assimilation, The Laws of Power, to be released for worldwide distribution in March 2017. This record is a crushing blend of brutal classic death metal with touches of thrash, and a slew of fiery leads.

Matt is influenced by a multitude of great musicians, but thanks Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick, Michael Romeo, George Lynch, Marco Sfogli and Greg Howe for their ceaseless inspiration over the years.

Matt holds a diploma in guitar performance through the University of West London and is also a guitar instructor in his hometown of Vancouver BC.

Chanway’s EP features six original songs showcasing his love and passion for what he makes. The first song “Evidence of the Arcane “ is an energetic roaring fierce to be reckoned with. The following track “The Receiver of Wisdom” continues the rocking with strong guitar hooks the bring the listener into the fold. “Harbinger 2.1” presents a harder, distinctive metal sound. The remaining tracks on the EP: “271114,” “Eyes in the Sky,” and “Lucidity” treat the listener to intrinsic guitar playing and the dynamic sound of metal.

Matt Chanway engages in an engulfing musical experience that listeners all around will love.
