REVIEW: While there are many acts that have entourages and dance troupes, California’s Chameleon Technology, also known as ChamTech, is a dynamic, live multimedia experience. A one man performer named Max Histrionic, plays real bass and drums synced with live action video of Histrionic. The live video is then projected next to him playing guitar and singing live. Since 2009, Max Histrionic has been involved in making an unpredictable sound setting him apart from other music artists. In his new EP “Blank Canvas,” Histrionic ventures into dark, socially aware lyrical themes, aggressive punk, metal and industrial music.
“Black Canvas” keeps up so much energy and brevity in this five song set. Histrionic performs the vocals, guitars (including bass, but “guitars” for simplicity). and drums. ‘No Safe Word’ starts things off with a sound reminiscent of Green Day, energetic drums and fierce guitar. ‘Serin’s Vending’ is a shorter track that keeps the momentum going. ‘Lifestyle Science’ tends to fall under more prog pop punk with a bouncy vibe. ‘Self Repair’ brings the tone down with a slower tempo. ‘Blank Canvas” closes out the set singing about his desire to do whatever he wants to with a blank canvas. He has accomplished doing what he wants with “Blank Canvas,” showing we can all create something with our minds. While his lyrics are full of chaos, he is able to successfully bring together a complex, mind filled experience that show cases what depth Histrionic has as an artist.
If “Blank Canvas” is just a sample of what Histrionic can do, I would welcome a full LP. He has his own sound that embraces fierce drums and energetic guitar sounds that leave the listener perplexed, but curious to hear what more will come.
