Dallas, TX – 2015 Texas State Fair of Texas Now Open! The Texas air is drying and the sultriness which encapsulates our heat is becoming not so… hard hitting. Football can finally be seen again on the TVs that shine through windows of bars that line Dallas streets. People from all around know what this means: The State Fair of Texas is back.
A tradition that goes back to 1886, many hold it to be an extension of the Holiday season, making routine family excursions throughout the entirety of its stay in Fair Park. Families are greeted by our new and improved 55’ Big Tex’s booming voice crooning out “Howdy Folks” and other such Texan colloquialisms.
Even on opening day, a Friday afternoon, lines reached 20 and 30 heads long for Fletcher’s famous corn dogs and other artery clogging famous fried confections that you hate to love so much. Of course the long standing 212’ Ferris wheel was in full rotation, like a watchful Sauron’s eye over Fair Park and East Dallas.
The fair’s car show dates back almost as long as the fair itself. It’s a world renowned event within the automotive industry, not to mention a great place to let children explore and learn.
For those of us that have jobs such as, I don’t know, journalists, and are looking to enjoy life on a budget, the state fair is introducing a new feature called Thrifty Thursdays, during which select food vendors will be offering their signature menu items at a discounted price.
This year, there will be four big stages with live music every day, free with admission to the fair; adding some family friendly musical ambiance to your trek through the fairgrounds. Over all, the State fair is set to be as big as it has been year after year and as usual, the old idiom rings true; everything’s bigger in Texas.
The State Fair of Texas runs through October 18th. For more info, please visit bigtex.com
